SmartZmluva is an online platform that simplifies creating, managing and signing legal documents. Instead of the lengthy traditional process, users generate a legally correct document and sign it online — quickly, simply and safely.
Why legaltech, why now
The Slovak market for digital contracts has shifted noticeably over the past two years. eIDAS, qualified electronic signatures and the gradual digital push in public administration mean that the classic 'paper + signature + scan' workflow no longer cuts it. Small businesses, freelancers and real-estate operators want to prepare, send and sign a routine contract (lease, scope-of-work, NDA) in minutes — from the web or a phone.
SmartZmluva's goal is to make legal documents accessible to anyone — without a lawyer visit for routine contracts and without paperwork.
Interface: complex processes in a few clear steps
In our first diagnostic we saw the biggest problem was not contracts themselves but interfaces that tried to be 'a universal contract editor'. Too many fields. Too many decisions. Too little trust.
We turned it into a step-by-step wizard: you pick a contract type, answer a few clear questions, and SmartZmluva assembles a legally correct document behind you. Before sending, you see it in full, can adjust it in a simple editor, and then send it for the other party's signature in one click.
Architecture
- Next.js + TypeScript on the web, Postgres for persisted contracts and audit logs.
- Server-side PDF generation with precise typography — no browser quirks.
- Self-service builder with templates in structured JSON, so adding a new contract type is a new JSON file, not a new release.
- Digital signature through a qualified eIDAS-compatible provider; SmartZmluva keeps an audit log with timestamps, IP and document hash for every signature.
- Secure payments via Stripe for the paid tier.
Designed for trust
In a legaltech product, design is not just aesthetics — it is a trust signal. Our reference points were top-tier SaaS tools: clean typography, calm colours, no banner ads, no stock photos of smiling lawyers. The 'Your documents' page looks like a bank dashboard, not a template marketplace.
The best feedback we got in testing came from an attorney: 'This feels like it was made by a lawyer — just without the hourly fee.'
What's next
SmartZmluva is live with several contract types at launch. The architecture is built so that adding new document types — employment contracts, equity agreements, vehicle transfers — is a matter of weeks, not quarters. We are also preparing API integrations for real-estate platforms and freelance marketplaces that want to embed SmartZmluva in their own flows.
